The uses of vinegar in the home (instead of all those branded cleaning products we buy) are endless. Start by getting white distilled vinegar. It is the cheapest and has a high level of acidity that kills germs, moulds and bacteria. For carpets: 1/2 litre vinegar added to 1/2 litre water . Apply to the carpet with a spray bottle. Then vacuum. For washing machines: Pour 1/2 cup in to your rinse cycle to reduce the amount of lint. For stains: Dark marks like chocolate or coffee are effectively removed if you rub with vinegar before you wash. For urine stains on beds or carpets: Use the water and vinegar spray. Leave to dry and sprinkle on bicarbonate of soda. For wood panelling: 1/2 cup olive oil and 1/2 cup vinegar brings up the shine. For furniture: Vinegar mixed with linseed oil makes a perfect furniture polish.
