The environment is at real risk. Hence we all need to do something.

• NOT to discourage economic development and job creation,

• BUT to take responsibility…

  - Waste is becoming a dire threat

  - Trees are being cut down at an alarming rate

  - Fertile soil is irreparably damaged

  - Consumerism is at its height

• We have to take action to replace energy resources and restore some kind of balance

RECYLING IS NOW SA LAW. [See Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) website

www.environment.gov.za and click the link to the National Waste Management strategy.]

Hence we have to do something. ‘We’ are:

• Big industries, big events

• Shopping centres & small initiatives

• Schools

• Individuals & communities

Basic recycling includes:

• Glass recovery

• Paper

• Cans

• Plastics (PET)

• Electronics, batteries, ‘white goods’

And this is exactly what Moonprint Concerts for the Earth is doing. We recycle events and festivals,

teach communities to recycle, install recycling facilities at schools, retail and office facilities and in

communities, organize clean‐ups in public spaces, educate show and tell, and much more…

A.         MISSION STATEMENT

To create awareness of and supply information about the dominant imperative for recycling – as

well as organise hands‐on activities to enable schools, organisations, individuals and others on

where to start with the greening process. These awareness activities often centre around music

concerts and other artistic events through which public awareness is heightened.

B.         PRIMARY GOAL

Moonprint and its organisational partners have created a national ‘green portal’ through which we

can refocus the people of our country’s attention on to how we are damaging the planet and our

environment – and, more importantly, what can be done to salvage it.

Essentially Moonprint is harnessing the forceful medium of music to attract attention to and bring

across the message of recycling and a healthier environment; but also through various other

follow‐up or advance tangible and pro‐active actions, such as educational projects at schools,

establishing recycling facilities in public spaces, public cleanups, et cetera.

There are already ongoing and sustainable clean up actions, in tandem with concerts in various

communities (e.g. Mooiplaats informal settlement, Mamelodi, Ga‐Rankuwa, Oppikoppi (Northam),

FORR (Ponta Malongane, Mozambique), Johannesburg CBD, Nelspruit (Innibos), Potchefstroom

(Aardklop), taxi ranks, various schools, etc…) and, of course, each ‘concert’ and its line‐up and

affiliated actions is tailored to suit the community.

The ultimate aim is to have a broad network, including environmental specialists and assorted

responsible organisations through which all sectors of South Africa can participate, become

aware, recycle, learn and attune.

JOB CREATION is an added bonus – and has become one of the most effective tools to reach

communities; train personnel and empower them to continue with recycling throughout and so

provide income from the recycling stations.
